Firstly, we all face stressful situations when we are at work. Whether it is office or it’s our own business that we run, stress is inevitable. But the real question is, do we need to take stress that much to reach to a point of burnout?

Today’s lifestyle that we live, it is very competitive. We all have to run the rat race in order to maintain a certain lifestyle because let’s face it we all want a good life!! There’s nothing wrong in having a good life where you want to spend nicely and go on trips or make good investments.

Do these desires, wants and needs become so overpowering that we cannot go and look outside these parameters?

We all in the end have to remember that there is more to life than work and paychecks. Even though in today’s world everything does revolve around money, yet things like happiness, love, our close people who support and understand us are beyond money. Also if we aren’t happy with our lives, it is definitely going to impact our decisions and how we perceive our successes.

What to do to manage stress?

Managing stress is not that complex as you think it is. Yes! It’s true!!

You can start with small steps like:

  • Being grateful for small things like you had a coffee/tea today, or you got a vehicle to travel, you have got work colleagues or friends, etc.
  • Do something for yourself each day, even if it is for a few minutes.
  • Develop or revive your hobby it doesn’t have to be fancy or too costly or something that’s too consuming.
  • Stay connected with your loved ones and spend time with them
  • Have people who love you, understand you, inspire you & push you towards your well-being and growth around you.
  • Know that work is a part of your life and not the other way around.
  • Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed with situations and stressors, but make it a point not to push it under the carpet but reach out to people who you can confide in.
  • Take a break whenever you feel like things are becoming overwhelming without feeling guilty about it.
  • Create a support system for yourself who you can easily reach out when needed.
  • 5 minutes just for yourself in a day
  • Read 5 pages a day, any book or newspaper, or anything you feel like
  • Engaging on any form of art (sewing, painting, scribbling, etc.)

Many researches have shown that gratitude can benefit us on various levels helping us with our enhanced mood, feeling happy, focusing on the good and other things.

It is often said that whatever you focus on, grows and indeed it always happens with us yet we fail to notice.
Let me give you an example. Imagine you have a presentation to give and you run through all the worst possible scenarios that can happen while you present. Now that you are constantly thinking about it, something really goes wrong during the presentation even if it is minor one and the rest of the presentation went amazing. You will end up thinking that the presentation wasn’t good enough. So you see, you focused on mistakes or wrong things happening and it happened.

Also, it is important to manage your stress levels because if stress is left unmanaged, it will start affecting your physical health and manifest into headaches, gut issues, sleeplessness, and it can also go down to various other physical health issues.

Seeking support from loved ones, spending time with them, engaging in things that make you feel happy and focusing on even the smallest thing like you being able to sip something you like helps you to feel happier than you think when you struggle to find your ground during the times when you feel nothing is going right.

Breathwork also helps to calm you down when you are under stressful situations. It helps to ease your nervous system thus helping you feel better during the racing of the same during stressful situations.

Makie a to-do list a day ahead. This will help you know how your day is and what all needs to be done giving you a sense of structure and routine in your life. You can keep a space for additional unexpected tasks that come to you as well, isn’t that great!

At workplace and for workplaces, your office can create a supportive work environment for your employees so that it becomes easier for them to share their concerns without feeling judged. Launching and setting Employees Assistance Programs which focuses on employee’s well-being can help them feel taken care for and valued in your organization.

If you are an employee, remember that the job isn’t as important as your emotional and mental well-being.

If you are a business person, remember that everyone will rise above and so will you. You will require patience and determination and a lot more in order to make your business a success. Don’t forget to smile, hydrate, sleep well, eat well, move your body and relax both – your mind and body everyday so that you can feel good about yourself every day. Because if you don’t feel good about yourself, you won’t feel good about anything around you as well, even if it’s good.
