Why are we not happy?
Often relationships have issues which haunt people, or someone single wants to be in a relationship and not able to get appropriate partner.
We often seek happiness outside and in material things for example: “When I have a particular job, I will be happy; or, When I would date this person I will be happy; or, when I get this particular thing life will be better, etc.”
What we forget is happiness is inside us, on how we perceive the situations, on what we tell to ourselves when we are not feeling good, on how we react to sad or difficult situations. When we remain calm, when we remain in-line with what we feel and want at that particular time. When we attribute everything to external things and situations at that time we find sadness because those things are not in our control, and when we try to control them, we feel disappointed because we won’t be able to do so.
What can you do?
- See what small things make you happy? (eg.: morning tea/coffee with newspaper, or going on a walk with favourite music tracks, etc.)
- Make them part of your routine, but don’t be too harsh on it, otherwise you will lose interest in the same
- Be mindful of what and how different situations and people make you feel
- Start asking yourself whether reacting in a certain way will make you feel good
- Note when you become happy from inside and repeat the things that can make you smile
- Connect with positive people who genuinely want to see you succeed and see you happy
- Practice self-love
- Inculcate a hobby
- Develop interest in reading, read self-help books
- Say ‘no’ when you actually want to say no
- Let go off negative people or people who put you down
- Meditate
- Exercise
- Spend time with yourself, alone
When we start seeing inside ourselves of what makes us happy and how we react to situations, we will start reacting better to stress and other problems in life.
Yes, of course, saying is easier than done, but give it a try, if not everything, try just one thing, I am sure it will at least make you smile and feel happy.
